El Nuevo Billete de México
Posted on August 31, 2010 · Leave a CommentMexico is celebrating their bicentennial independence from Spain by circulating a new bill for the 500 peso. The new bill is a tribute to artists and lovers Frida Kohl and Diego Rivera who contributed so much to Mexican life and culture.
Their images appear on opposite sides of the bill and hold watermarks of their famous artwork. To prove the authenticity of the new bill, Banco de México added these special touches in hopes that the it would be impossible to make into a counterfeit bill.

Salute to Esteban “Steve” Jordan
Posted on August 20, 2010 · Leave a CommentFor a genre best know for its polka, waltzes and boleros, Esteban “Steve” Jordan added some jazz and electronic synthesizers to his accordion play and transformed the face of Tejano conjunto music.
Many called him the Jimmy Hendrix to the button accordion because of the different rhythms and harmonies that he added when he played. A talent that he credits to a gig he did with Latin Jazz percussionist, Willie Bobo. Jordan has said that working with Bobo opened his ears to sounds outside of conjunto music. One experience made all the difference for him and Tejano music
“El Parche”, as he was also known because he wore a pirate patch over his right eye due to a medical malpractice at birth, learned how to play over 20 instruments. His music has influenced great bands such as Los Lobos, the Brave Combo, and other conjunto groups, and was later dubbed by latino disc jockeys as psychedelic polka.
Be a part of celebrating his life this Saturday, August 21st at the Saluté International Bar on the St. Mary’s Strip, not far from your Laurel Canyon community. Jordan’s family and friends will be celebrating his life since his death on August 13, 2010 from liver cancer. Special guests include the TexManiacs and Rio Jordan, which includes Juanito Castillo and two of Jordan’s sons, Esteban Jordan Jr. and his brother Bonifacio Jordan. Music starts at 10pm.
